Sorbus collective sought balance between art, work and life but has started to feel old, uncool and burnt out. Art was our dream job, but we’re not sure if we can handle &#38;nbsp;it.

K17 – Space for Art and Ecology opened to the public in Nikkilä, Sipoo, in February 2022. The unique building was once used as the Nikkilä Psychiatric Hospital greenhouse – the 140m2 interior combines the decaying foundations of the old greenhouse. Selected artists have five weeks working time at K17 before the exhibition or event opens to the public. I was part of the working group with visual artist Mika Helin from 2022 until the end of 2024 when writer and sculptor Iisa Lepistö took over my shift.Photos from up and left to right: K17 building from outside &#38;nbsp;

Kuupuu is a solo-project by Finnish musician and visual artist Jonna Karanka. Her work blends improvisation, lo-fi aesthetics and electro-acoustic elements to create hypnotic, dreamlike soundscapes. Active in the underground and experimental music scenes for over two decades, her work has garnered recognition both in Finland and internationally. 
&#38;nbsp;Her records have been released on such labels as KRAAK (Belgium),&#38;nbsp;EM Records (Japan), Time-Lag Records (USA) and Dekorder (Germany). She has performed in KRAAK Festival (Brussels),&#38;nbsp;ISSUE Project Room (NYC), Flow Festival (Helsinki), Fylkingen (Stockholm), Museo do Chiado (Lisbon) etc. She also plays in&#38;nbsp;Olimpia Splendid (with Heta Bilaletdin and Katri Sipiläinen), Black Bikini (with Pentti Dassum), Hockey Night (with Arttu Partinen, Sami Pekkola and Jaakko Tolvi) Kukkiva Poliisi (with Johanna Ketola, Annika Lintervo, Johanna Lonka, Inka Yli-Tepsa) and Hertta Lussu Ässä (with Merja Kokkonen and Laura Naukkarinen). She has also made sounds with Avarus, The Anaksimandros, Way of the Cross, Kemialliset Ystävät and IAX. She was one of the producer’s on Draama-Helmi kuistilla -record that won the Teosto Prize in 2023.

Jonna Karanka is a multidisciplinary artist and musician renowned for her experimental soundscapes and tactile visual art. She sews rya rugs and weaves tapestries combining different materials (pearls, ribbons, playdough, sequins etc) to create rhythms, compositions, everlasting parties and psychedelic troll skin. Her textiles are an improvised melange of handicraft traditions, pop culture and hobby glitter glamour. Her work is fueled by simple hallucinations formed by geometric patterns and the esotericism of traditional textiles. She has also been part of two different artists’ working groups that ran Sorbus gallery in Helsinki and K17 – Taiteen ja ekologian koetila in Sipoo.

Working under the moniker Kuupuu, she crafts lo-fi, dreamlike music that blends improvisation, loops and electroacoustic textures. She makes music with Draama-Helmi as Draamakuu and plays with her mini-rock trio Olimpia Splendid whenever possible. Also Hertta Lussu Ässä (trio with Islaja and Lau Nau) is working on a comeback album, be aware!
